Mid-Year Money Checkup: Are Your Financial Goals on Track?
Remember those financial goals you set in January? Maybe you wanted to save money for a special goal, cut back on non-essentials, pay down debt or invest in your financial future.
Now that the year is halfway through, it’s a great time to check in and see how things are going so you can finish 2026 strong. As your caring financial partner, Wright-Patt Credit Union® (WPCU®) is here to help!
Here are 3 steps for a mid-year money checkup:
- Revisit Your Financial Goals
Start by reviewing the money goals you set earlier in the year. Ask yourself:
- What progress have I made?
- Are my goals still relevant?
- Is it still realistic to reach these goals?
It’s okay if your goals shift over time. You may even have new goals to add.
Not sure where to start? Take our free Financial Flex Snapshot to get a quick summary of your financial picture. You’ll see what’s going well when it comes to your money and where there are opportunities to do better. It takes less than 2 minutes to complete!
- Check in on Your Credit
Your credit plays an important role in your Financial Flexibility and Freedom® journey. Now’s a great time to:
- Stay on top of your score (and more!) by accessing WPCU’s My Credit Score tool, available within Mobile and Online Banking.
- Review your credit reports for free at AnnualCreditReport.com
- Take steps to improve your credit:
- Pay down high-interest debt
- Make on-time payments
- Keep credit card balances low
- Avoid applying for new credit unless necessary
- Plan for the Rest of the Year
Whether you’re right on track with your goals or have a little catching up to do, take some time to look ahead and make a plan for the rest of 2025. Consider upcoming expenses, like:
- Back-to-school costs: school supplies, new clothes, sports and activity fees and electronics
- Holiday spending: gifts, events, clothes, travel
- Seasonal bills: higher utility costs, lawn care, snow removal
Remember, unexpected expenses can—and will—pop up. If you don’t already have one, start setting aside money for an emergency fund in a secondary savings account so you’re prepared for the rainy days.
