Planning Your Purchase

Your successful home-buying experience starts with a great plan:
  • Determine how much house you can afford
  • Develop a monthly budget that works for you
  • Organize your financial information and documents
  • Understand how your credit score impacts your buying power
    • To get the lowest rate and most options, a credit score of 740 or higher is recommended
    • The minimum credit score to buy a home using a conventional loan is 620
    • A credit score of 620 is needed to qualify for an FHA loan. However, WPCU may go as low as 600 to qualified buyers.

  • Use these tips to increase your credit score
    • Check your credit report for mistakes or inaccuracies
    • Make payments on time
    • Pay down your debt
    • Limit your credit applications
