Save a Tree Choose eStatements

April is Earth Month, and there's no better time to start thinking about ways to help keep our planet beautiful.

One small step we can all take is to reduce our paper consumption. Did you know that the average American uses more than 700 pounds of paper every year? That's a lot of paper — and unfortunately, much goes to waste. Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper end up in landfills each year.

Thankfully, it's easier than ever to reduce paper waste, especially in today's electronic age! Here are a few ways to do just that:

  1. Be Mindful of Your Paper Use
How much paper do you use each day? You might be surprised! From paper towels and napkins to sticky notes, receipts, envelopes and more, paper is all around us! A few simple swaps, like using cloth towels or digital note-taking apps, can make a difference.
  2. Reuse and Recycle
If you do use paper products, try to make the most of them. For example, print on both sides of a page or use just one paper towel instead of two.
Another money-saving tip is to reuse wrapping paper or gift bags when you can. Even greeting cards can be repurposed into creative gift tags or scrapbook pages.
  3. Go Green, Go Digital!
Perhaps the easiest way to reduce paper waste is to switch to digital documents, bills and statements whenever possible. Many organizations, including Wright-Patt Credit Union® (WPCU®), offer the choice to opt into “paperless" electronic communications rather than sending paper mail.
