Clever Ways to Reach Your Savings Goals

Are you looking to buy a car, pay down debt or save up for a down payment on a home? Whatever important savings goal you're working on, Wright-Patt Credit Union is here to help you stay on track. Here are just a few simple strategies to help you reach your goals.

Focus on your “why"

Money is a highly personal subject, and everyone's reason to save is different. When life gets busy we can forget the reason we're working towards a specific savings goal. What made you want to save? Remembering your “why" will help stay focused on what's most important so you can reach your goal faster.

Create bite-sized action steps

Breaking down your big goals into a few, bite-sized action steps can be a great way to make long term goals feel a little easier. A helpful strategy is to imagine the “finish line" of your goal and then work backward to identify the small steps you need to take to get there. Planning in reverse can give you a new perspective and help you stay positive as you work toward your ultimate goal.

Picture your progress

Another great way to stay motivated and inspired to reach a saving goal is by visualizing your goal and tracking your progress. Whether you create a vision board by clipping out photos from a magazine or make a chart that marks your milestones, it helps to remind yourself of how far you've come. Put your visual reminder in a place that you'll see every day, like on the refrigerator door or bathroom mirror.

Celebrate small wins

Every small step towards your big goals is a win.  Celebrating your success along the way can help you maintain your savings momentum! For example, treat yourself to a spa day or a nice dinner when you reach 50% of your savings goal. By recognizing your small victories, it's much easier to stay on track for the long-term!
