Did you know that someone falls victim to identity theft every two seconds. Luckily, you can avoid identity theft with these helpful tips. Tip 1: Shred documents with personal data. First, make sure you protect your personal information like your social security number and account information. Only give them out if you must and never give them to someone who calls or emails you. Store any printed documents (mail, bills, tax documents) that contain identifying information in a safe place and shred papers that include your personal information before you throw them away. This keeps your personal data out of the wrong hands. Tip 2: Monitor your accounts and credit reports. Next, keep a close eye on your accounts and credit reports to watch for any unusual activity. You can get a free copy of your credit reports at annualcreditreport.com. Finally, make sure the websites you use to shop or share personal information are secure. Tip 3: Use secure websites.
