Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. Making life a little easier. Fraud Awareness Minute. Credit Card and Account Security. Ivy Glover, CCUFC. Wright-Patt Credit Union. Credit card fraud is more common than ever before, but there's a lot you can do to protect yourself, and your information. Here are three great tips to help you avoid credit card fraud. Tip 1: Keep your cards in a secure place. First, it's important to keep your cards secure when you're not using them. Keep your cards in a purse, or wallet, and carry them close to your body to prevent theft. If you aren't using them for long periods of time, consider storing your cards in a safe place, rather than carrying them. Tip 2: Dispose of information in a secure way. Next, avoid tossing items containing your personal information, such as old (expired or canceled) credit or debit cards, tax records and billing statements, directly in the trash. Instead, shred them, or place them in one of Wright-Patt Credit Union's confidential bins, which are available in all member centers. You may also consider signing up for online bill pay, to receive billing statements digitally, and reduce the amount of mail you receive containing personal account information. Tip 3: Report lost and stolen cards immediately. Finally, make sure you review and monitor your accounts at least two to three times per week, to spot unusual transactions. If your card is lost or stolen, or if you discover someone has made charges on your account, report it immediately to prevent further theft.
