Social media sites are a fun way to stay connected to friends and family, but they can also be valuable tools for scammers looking to steal your information or identity. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe on social media. Tip 1: Set strong privacy and security settings. First, be aware of the privacy and security settings on your social media accounts. These control who will see your posts and your personal information. Tip 2: Avoid "oversharing". Next, never post personally identifying information on social media, such as your home address, personal phone number, driver's license number, Social Security number, Student ID number, or email address. Keeping this information private will protect you in the event of an information breach. Tip 3: Watch out for social engineering attacks. Finally, don't fall for social engineering schemes. In these attacks, hackers pose as long lost family members or friends on social media and try to persuade their victims to share personal or account information. To stay safe, don't connect with unfamiliar contacts and never share your password or account information online. Want some more helpful tips and resources to prevent fraud?
