Last month we talked about your 2012 Student Lending Resolution. A month has passed and we want to make sure you have all the support you need to achieve your goals! You should always be sure to find FREE money for college first (scholarships and grants), then explore CHEAP options (Federal aid). If you still need to fill in the gap, WPCU is always here to help.

FREE Money

To start searching for scholarships, visit RespectYourMoney.com to find a scholarship search engine. If you’re a high school student, you should also check with your guidance office for local scholarship opportunities. There are scholarships available for academics, hobbies, volunteering and more, so be sure to explore all your options.

CHEAP Money

Your next step should be to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) so you’ll have access to aid from your college and the government. There are strict deadlines for filing your FAFSA, so be sure to stay on track!

• Federal Deadline
  Online applications must be submitted by midnight Central Time, June 30, 2013. If you have any corrections or updates to your first submission, those need to be in by midnight Central Time, September 23, 2013.
• State Deadline
  Ohio’s deadline is October 1, 2012 by midnight, Central Daylight Time. For other states, visit the FAFSA website.
• College Deadline
  Every college is different so be sure to check with each one you're interested in attending. Colleges may also have different definitions of what an application deadline is. Some consider it to be the date they receive your FAFSA, others consider it the date your FAFSA is processed. Make sure you know your school's definition by checking with them right away.
