DAYTON, OHIO, April 25, 2012 - Today, your Better Business Bureau is pleased to announce Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. will be honored with your BBB’s third annual Torch Award. This esteemed company will receive the prestigious honor at your BBB’s Eclipse Integrity Awards on Tuesday, May 8 at David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center, 444 W. Third St., Bldg. 12, Dayton.
Throughout the years, your Better Business Bureau torch has been the symbol of guidance and enlightenment as consumers and businesses strive to interact in a trustworthy and ethical marketplace. The local Torch Award is dedicated to the legacy of great Miami Valley business pioneers, such as John Patterson, Wilbur and Orville Wright, Charles Kettering, Colonel Edward Deeds and most recently, Clay Mathile. It was through their ingenuity, leadership, generosity and mentorship to others the Miami Valley has stood the test of time and recreated itself again and again.
The selection committee decided to recognize Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. this year as the BBB Torch Award honoree because the organization strives to be the best financial institution its member-owners have ever experienced and the best place its partner-employees have ever worked. From its start as The Sunshine Fund created to help a co-worker in need, the organization is dedicated to the principles of people helping people. Celebrating its 80th year in business this year, it’s now the largest credit union in the State of Ohio and one of the largest in the nation. It’s a leader in offering responsible financial services. It doesn’t measure success in how big it is, or in how many it serves, but rather in how many it helps to achieve greater financial success for themselves and their families.
The company sees its role in the Dayton area as a force for economic development, creating high-value jobs and helping people make healthy financial decisions. It believes as members become more financially secure, their communities become better places to live. It strives to make the Miami Valley a better place for all its constituents by making a difference where it can, whether through the organization’s financial support and/or employee involvement in the community. In addition to its partnerships with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University, the credit union hosts its own golf outing benefitting area nonprofits and sponsors the annual Cystic Fibrosis Celebrity concert. It’s team members volunteer for a wide variety of community organizations. Wright-Patt Credit Union has won multiple awards for its efforts. It does what it does because it’s the right thing to do.
The Torch Award was presented to Bob Ross Buick-GMC & Mercedes-Benz last year. The honor will be passed to Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. by Jenell Ross, Bob Ross Buick-GMC & Mercedes-Benz president. She says, “Wright-Patt Credit Union has been a permanent fixture in the Dayton community for 80 years. Its mission “We help members though life” is illustrated in the numerous ways they have provided access to thousands of individuals to fulfill their dreams of completing an education, starting a business, purchasing homes and vehicles, and giving them the necessary tools to build on their wealth. The Bob Ross Auto Group was indeed honored to be the recipient of the BBB second annual Torch Award last year. We look forward to passing the Torch Award to Wright-Patt Credit Union knowing its commitment to ingenuity, leadership, generosity and mentorship to the Miami Valley region will continue to be displayed through its leaders and employees.”
John North, BBB president and CEO, says, “Your BBB’s Torch Award honors businesses that make our marketplace better as some of Dayton’s historic figures have. Wright-Patt Credit Union demonstrates innovation and community support in its daily operations. It’s second nature for the organization’s team. Your BBB is pleased to recognize Wright-Patt Credit Union for its efforts to build a stronger and more ethical marketplace.”
Douglas A. Fecher, Wright-Patt Credit Union president and CEO, says, “We are very excited to be this year’s recipient of the Torch Award. As one of Dayton’s most important awards for companies in our region - it’s quite an honor! This award is truly special because it would not be possible without the hard work of our partner-employees. I’m told over and over again how ‘different’ it feels when people walk into one of our Member Centers or other facilities. There’s a sense of warmth, energy and optimism, which comes from the people - the Wright-Patt Credit Union partner-employees. They approach their jobs every day with a dedication toward helping people in the Miami Valley improve their financial standing. Indeed, this award is their award, and it’s a big deal to all of us at the credit union.”
